Dress Code #1: The Business Casual Attire
For a work environment that requires a business casual dress code take a closer look at the pictures above. You would notice that it looks more like what we'd like to call here in the office as the comfortable serious look.
Here are the no-no's:
* NO jeans
* NO short pants - for the gentlemen who takes the casual too seriously
* NO tank tops - especially for the physically endowed ladies
* NO ultra micro-minis - also for the unbelievably curvaceous ladies
and
* NO t-shirts!
FOR THE GENTLEMEN
- Trade your jeans, sweat pants, and other trousers with cotton-made pants, slacks or flannel pants.
- Make sure you iron your pants.
- It doesn't matter if you create that perfect crease in the middle of the pants or not, what's important is that it's seemingly unwrinkled.
- Try wearing some long-sleeve button-down collared shirts. The short sleeved ones are also okay but as much as possible try not to go for them. The bosses wouldn't want to be distracted by the hairs on your arms.
- Plain button-down shirts in neutral colors are highly recommendable.
- Make sure you choose those with small logos on them. If you're not working for that logo on your shirt then try as much as you can to hide them. To simply put it, you're not paid to walk the hallways of your office so people could know that Ralph Lauren now has snap downs. Always remember that one of the reasons why you're dressing up is to sell yourself, not anybody else.
- Then again if you're bored with the plain ones try playing with patterns. Plaid in soft colors looks really well inside an office with blue walls. If you have an office with green or mustard yellow walls wear your dark colored plaids.
- Neck ties are optional. If you're going for a meeting on a business casual dress code day, the ties could pass. But on a regular paper work day you can let it rest.
- You don't necessarily need a coat here. If you have one, still don't wear them.- As much as possible NO BLINGS. Take off those ice. And if you can include those grillz too.
- If you're one of those who have gotten one or both of their ears pierced, when you're on a dress code like this, I hope you take them off for a while. Especially if you're just practically new to the company.
- Wrist watch. By all means get yourself a wrist watch. Because you know what a wrist-watch stands for? Time value. Duh. Show them how important your time is and they will take you seriously. Promise.
- Shoes. Comfortable walking shoes, dress shoes, loafers and boots. Only whatever happens you've got to keep them black. No, not Brown, not even Blue, don't care if it's got white stripes but just keep it black. Just Black. Black.
- Gents, wear socks by the way. Don't forget to pair the color of your socks to the color of the pants you're wearing.
- Bags. Okay, bags aren't much of a distraction to what you are wearing. You only need to carry them in and out of the office at the most. But if you really insist to know what's appropriate then we suggest you pick a bag that can hold just the right amount of luggage you need at work. A backpack is just fine.
FOR THE LADIES
For the Ladies:
- It's always better (and just normal) to wear skirts when it's business casual day at work. But slacks have become the most comfortable choice especially if it's too cold inside your office because of the mean centralized air-conditioning.
- When it comes to skirts, try not to wear the teasing ones like the ultra-micro mini skirts we mentioned above. Choose those that are not offensive but would not compromise your physique.
- If you're wearing a skirt to work, do remember that you'll have them on for 8 hours or so. Wearing a panty hose underneath is also a wise decision.
- Plain flannel pants are highly recommendable as well for conservative or gam conscious ladies out there.
- Same as with the gentlemen, you can try wearing some long-sleeve button-down collared shirts as well. Don't worry, wearing them won't lessen your femininity. In fact, it's already a trend (if you're living under a rock that you're so shocked by this)!
- Let's break down the "as long as" rules about wearing black/white and tank tops/tube tops:
Black/White
Rule #1: It's okay to wear black/white as long as it's not your bad day today and you can offer an easy smile. Because if you don't, others will think somebody died.
Rule #2: It's also okay to wear black/white as long as you slept well last night.
and
Rule #3: It's also okay to wear black/white if only not everyday.
Tank tops/Tube Tops
Rule #1: It's okay to wear a tank top/tube top as long as you're wearing a blazer or a coat on top of it.
Rule #2: It's okay to wear a tank top/tube top as long as you're not showing too much flesh and you're wearing a blazer or a coat on top of it.
and finally,
Rule #3: It's okay to wear a tank top/tube top as long as you promise not to drop your pen and you're wearing a blazer or a coat on top of it.
- It's really okay to wear jewelries to work. Actually, all the ladies should. Earrings, necklaces and bracelets, you can wear them all, even altogether. Just make sure they're not offensively flattering.
- Wrist watch. The same as with men, to add more depth to your personality, wear a wrist watch.
- Shoes. Also, like those with men, we can wear to work comfortable walking shoes, dress shoes, loafers, boots, flats, chunky dress heels, and backless shoes. Please just don't forget that you need to pair them with your clothes.
- Bags. Also, bags do not distract the harmony of what you're wearing. We just hope that you keep the colors of your tote to neutral shades so you don't look funny.
On Saturday, let's talk about Smart Casual Attire. See yah!
